Works in Arunachal govt offices disrupted as employees on stir
Functioning of the state government offices and schools across the hilly
state of Arunachal Pradesh was today affected as the state government
employees started a two-day pens and tools down strike in protest
against government's failure to fulfill their charter of demands.
The strike, launched by Confederation of Service Associations of
Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP), a conglomeration of several state government
employees' associations, to press for implementation of 7th Central Pay
Commission recommendations, disrupted the functioning of almost all
government establishments, including state civil secretariat,
educational institutions and the offices of resident and deputy resident
commissioners located in different parts of the country.
Though
the government employees turned up for their work places - offices and
schools - but all abstained from doing their duties, except for
registering their attendance, according to CoSAAP general secretary G
Riba.
The strike was almost total in the State, Riba claimed,
adding that works in about 90 per cent of government establishments were
affected today whereas only a few employees had reported for work. At
some government schools, where examinations were held today, teachers
performed their duties by wearing black badges.
The CoSAAP has
been demanding the state government to implement the 7th central pay
commission recommendations with effect from January 1, 2016, raise the
employees' retirement age up to 60 years. Its other demands included
grant of transport & children's education allowances, withdrawal of
NOC system in matters of promotion and retirement, payment of adhoc
bonus to non-gazetted employees due from 2005-06.
The
employees' apex body said that instead of responding to the demands, the
government was trying to buy time by constituting one more Committee
forcing CoSAAP to launch the two-day agitation.
