Deutsche post workers set for new strike

German postal workers are set to begin a new round of strikes after they say Deutsche post bosses refused to move a millimetre during six rounds of talks.

The main issue is the planned creation of thousands more staff positions in separate entities that would pay less than the wages agreed by current collective bargaining agreements.

Several strikes have already severely disrupted the activity of Deutsche Post since the group announced in January its intention to create by 2020 10,000 new jobs in the parcel delivery sector, but at a lower salary than other employees of the group.

Last week the Verdi union agreed to give up demands for a wage increase for 140,000 Deutsche Post employees if the company agreed to bring new employees into the collective agreement.

A previous strike in April caused widespread disruption to the delivery of letters and parcels in Germany.

  1. the workers demands seem very reasonable and also being willing to forego their own demand for a wage increase to secure parity for others.
