Western Region of Tamil Nadu inaugurated its first ATM at Coimbatore HO on 13.05.2015

COIMBATORE:  The Department of Posts in the Western Region of Tamil Nadu inaugurated its first Automated Teller Machine (ATM) at the Head Post Office here on Wednesday. The ATM centre was inaugurated by M S Ramanujan, Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle.

At the inaugural, Ramanujan said by the end of 2016, there would be 500 ATM centres in Tamil Nadu by the Department of Posts. He also said, the ATM in the city was the sixth in Tamil Nadu including three in Chennai, one in Madurai and Trichy respectively.

He said, these ATM centres had been opened with a view to help customers withdraw and deposit money from their savings accounts, which have been opened in the postal department, through its core banking solutions. He also said, initially these ATM services will function for six working days between Monday and Saturday from 6 am to 8 pm. Soon, ATM services will be available at all times. “Customers can transfer money from their accounts to any bank account through the ATM, Internet banking and mobile banking through the Department of Posts," he added.

Ramanujan also said, over 6.12 lakh accounts had been opened in Tamil Nadu by customers for the benefit of the girl child under the Sukanya Samriddhi Account. Indian Postal Services has also tied up with Amazon, to deliver goods to public within two days. They also had plans to tie up with other e-commerce giants. 

Manju P Pillai, Chief Postmaster General of Western Region, Tamil Nadu, said, the ATM centres will soon be launched in head post offices in Erode and Bhavani in the western region. Customers who apply for the ATM cards of the postal department can expect to receive them within 15 days, she added.
