Post offices to turn centres for TNPSC exams

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission will open 25 examination centres in Chennai for the forthcoming examination in July. Earlier, there were only four centres.

TNPSC chairman R. Nataraj told The Hindu that the number of examination centres has been increased to 245 from the earlier 104 to cover all the taluks.

On Monday, fourteen online facilitation centres for candidates registering applications for the TNPSC were inaugurated in the city.

Of this, nine centres would be operated in the post offices at Ambattur, Avadi camp, Park Town, General Post Office, Tambaram, Ayanavaram, Washermenpet, Greams Road and Vepery. The remaining would function in the branches of Indian Bank.

Faster processing

“Earlier, it took three or four months to process the applications and conduct examinations. With the online system, we will be able to quicken the processing within 40 days. It will be an easy option for the applicants too,” Mr.Nataraj said.

TNPSC had recently announced that it would tie up with post offices and banks for online registration.

“We plan to open nearly 500 centres across the State. In Chennai, we propose to open 24 more centres in post offices and four more in banks,” Mr.Nataraj said.

Positive response

In the past two days, 10,000 candidates have registered online for group-IV examination.

Nearly 40,000 people have made one-time registrations so far on the website. The TNPSC would allot a permanent registration number to each candidate, he said.

R.Venkataraman, senior superintendent of post offices, city central division, said that the centres at post offices would help candidates make the one-time registration. They are equipped with computers with internet connectivity and scanners to aid candidates.

The fee for the registration should be paid at the post office and receipts would be issued.

The centres were inaugurated on Monday at a function organised at Greams Road post office in which TNPSC secretary T. Udayachandran and postal department's Assistant Director for business development in Chennai City Region, L. Amalachandran, participated.
